KYW Newsradio: “Project HOME leader among Pa. guests invited to State of the Union”

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An activist for Philadelphia’s homeless population is among the invited congressional guests who will see and hear President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address in person Tuesday in the nation’s capital.

Sister Mary Scullion, the Catholic nun who runs Project HOME in Philadelphia, and who is a nationally recognized expert on chronic homelessness, will be in the House gallery for the speech.

Rep. Dwight Evans, D-Philadelphia, invited her to attend. Evans says her presence in Washington will help him to highlight the need for more affordable-housing dollars.

Among the others getting invitations from the local congressional delegation is Patrick Flynn, a substance abuse awarness advocate, who will join Rep. Madeleine Dean, D-Montgomery County.

Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon, D-Delaware County, invited Kevin Harden Jr., a criminal justice reform and gun safety advocate, to the Capitol.

Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Bucks County, invited Michael and Joey Mignogna of Buckingham. The couple lost their home in an explosion and fire caused by a propane leak last month.
